Connection to the Hunter Valley –  Sister Pearl Nowland was a great granddaughter of Edward Nowland, one of three brothers that were amongst the first free settlers in the Upper Hunter.  Pearl was living in Muswellbrook when she enlisted and is named on Muswellbrook District Memorial.

Training and experience – Pearl graduated from Coast Hospital in 1915
